About Us

We are a theologically liberal, socially progressive, affirming congregation of the United Church of Canada, located in downtown Yellowknife, NWT.
Situated in Chief Drygeese Territory, we work and worship on the traditional territory of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation. We respect the histories, languages, and cultures of all other Indigenous People, including the North Slave Métis, the Tlicho, and all First Nations, Métis, and Inuit whose presence continues to enrich our vibrant community.
We are an affirming congregation, which means that persons of all sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression are explicitly and intentionally welcomed and celebrated as children of God. We hope you will find a place in our family of faith!

Our Mission

Yellowknife United Church is a community of Christians who enjoy fellowship grounded in a common, growing faith. The opportunity for worship and reflection offers the strength and spiritual development we need to live and minister in our society.

We value the Christian education of our children and adults. By exploring our Christian heritage, we understand our faith more deeply. We seek to be enriched by the spiritual traditions of the northern peoples.

As a congregation of the United Church of Canada we accept a calling to share our gifts, to work for a just and peaceful community and to exercise faithful stewardship of the life and health of God’s creation.

Our Vision

We believe that all people are created in the image of God and are unconditionally loved by God.

We are dedicated to being a community which welcomes and includes everybody, celebrating the diversity of our age, gender, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, ethnicity, and socio-economic circumstance.

We pray for God’s spirit to guide us as we celebrate the richness that diversity brings to our church, even as it challenges us.

We are committed to seeking justice, loving kindness and walking humbly with our God on our common faith journey.

Worship with Us!

Sundays at 11:00 am (10:00 June 1st-August 31st)

Join us every Sunday for worship at 11:00 am (10 am June 1st - August 31st). All ages are welcome; dedicated programming for children is provided most Sundays, and kid-friendly spaces are always available.

The "vibe" of our worship is informal and interactive. There's no need to wear your Sunday best, just come as you are. Got doubts about this whole "church" thing? That's all right, most of us do, too. Questions are welcome and encouraged! Our minister, Rev Alison Mock, spends half her time in Yellowknife and connects with us virtually half the time. Missed a Sunday? Her sermons are available at the link below.
